I am making 2024 the year of transformation. 2023 was rough to be honest. It was the best of times, but with the worst of times. Henry came into the world January 4, 2023 in a surprising fashion. I had a fall the 23rd of December and ended up with preeclampsia and placental abruption. I had spent 10 days in antepartum at our hospital swollen as a polar bear preparing for winter and my ankles were the size of small watermelons. Luckily, Henry was absolutely the most beautiful and perfect little 4 lbs, 9 oz baby. The night of Henry’s birth, I ended up hemorrhaging and had to extend a Magnesium drip another 24 hours limiting me from holding my little one!
To put it plainly, the first 5-7 days of 2023, were absolutely the best (because of sweet Henry), but also the worst!!
The rest of 2023, I spent most of my time recovering, adjusting to motherhood and being able to stay home with Henry to just be a mom! Truth be told, I absolutely loved it. With that said, I miss work or, I should say, I miss myself and my passions! I decided that I really wanted to not only work in fashion again (happy job hunting to me), but also, start a real estate investing career on the side. Long term goal, would be to leave fashion all together and have a group of boutique vacation rentals, maybe a bougie motel and some long term rentals to just help with the cashflow!
In June 2023, I made my first real estate offer. Did it work out, absolutely not! The appraisal process proved that the house wouldn’t actually be a good investment as a rental property and the whole deal fell through. I took the last 6 months to read everything about real estate, different types of mortgages, demographics, short term rental markets, etc. My biggest discoveries include DSCR loans (they help real estate investors move faster), and that beach/ski areas are truly the “safest” area to buy properties as investments. Many small towns in other desirable areas, are putting WAY too many limitations on short term rentals. I digress…
So to cut to the chase, I have HUGE goals for 2024.
- Purchase at least 3-4 properties as boutique stays.
- Relocate to CT. Truthfully I am done with Chicago. The crime here is terrible.
- Create baby #2. LOL.
- Run a business and land a successful fashion job.
- Pour my heart and soul into the real estate side business, so that I can leave corporate in the near term and be a super hands on mom!
- LOSE the baby weight once and for all.
To accomplish my goals, these are my 2024 ins!

To accomplish my goals, these are my 2024 outs!

A few things about my outs. I should also add comparison. There are people in my life that constantly compare and I usually avoid them at all costs. Life is about living life for yourself and achieving what you want for your own personal fulfillment. If you constantly compare or critique, you are doing that to make yourself feel better about something, whether it be your career choice, marriage, life decision, etc.
A big out for us is food delivery apps for meals, not so much groceries… We live in Chicago, people! Sometimes a grocery delivery is necessary if you don’t want to waste 3 hours in 30 below zero weather lol. Mind you, as I am writing this, I am totally eating a healthy sandwich that I ordered, so clearly this one wasn’t an instant change.
Another big out, is not being too hard on myself. Motherhood is a challenge, especially for first time moms. You are constantly wondering if you are doing something right. Also, I was very hard on myself for not “bouncing back” after having Henry AND not finding a job this last year. 2024 is the year to dream big and manifest change!
Sincerely,
Maggie
